The Impact of Affordable Access: The Faculty POV

Instructors from Florida International University, University of the Cumberlands, and Blinn College had a candid conversation on their experience with the First Day® Complete Affordable Access program, including misconceptions about the program and how it has transformed the way they teach.

When describing the impact of the program at University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Chris Leskiw, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, said:

“I would say it’s transformative. For our students, many of whom are first-generation, there’s already a lot that they’re navigating—financial aid, just understanding how college works, expectations. Removing that need to figure out textbooks, where to get them, how to afford them—that’s one major burden off their plate.

Before this program, I would often have to adjust my syllabus because students just didn’t have the book. Now they do, and they have it from day one. So we can actually start teaching immediately, and that makes a big difference.”
