Elon University Celebrates Grand Opening of New Bookstore
Built in record time, the new Barnes & Noble at Elon University bookstore celebrated its grand opening with cheers and a ceremonial ribbon cutting on September 30, 2011. Elon University President Leo M. Lambert marveled at the short time it took to construct the facility. The six-month long construction project began in early February and completed in mid-August, in time for the beginning of the 2011-12 academic year.
“We hope this is the first step in continuing to make Elon, North Carolina, one of the great college towns in American,” Lambert said. “We’re really proud of this new building. We think it has made a big difference in downtown Elon.”
Opened in Time for the Beginning of School
Barnes & Noble College Vice President, Stores Brian Stark had special praise for bookstore manager Kathy Scarborough for opening the store under a tight timeframe.
“Kathy did a tremendous job setting up the bookstore before the start of classes,” said Stark. “Her accomplishments within such a short period of time were pivotal to our successful opening. As a result, we are very proud to provide Elon University and the surrounding community with an unparalleled bookstore experience.”
Cost Savings and Convenience

In addition to offering textbooks, the new Elon bookstore also has a Spirit Shop, which sells Elon emblematic clothing and gift items, tradebook and reference sections, and a variety of convenience food items.
